From meandering through the colossal crowds to hosting your long-lost relatives, the holiday season can cause high-levels of unwanted stress.
But not to worry, there are multiple ways that you can avoid succumbing to the stressors, while keeping the holiday cheer alive.
Get moving
Exercise has multiple stress-busting benefits. Physical activity helps pump up the production of your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins. It’s also known to drastically improve your mood by relaxing you, increasing your self-confidence, and lowering the symptoms associated with anxiety.
Stick to the plan
During a hectic time like the holidays, it’s not uncommon for last minute things to come up. But it can be stressful when you’re forced to add extra responsibilities to your already full plate. Be sure to make a to-do list and follow it to the best of your ability. Remember, it’s okay to say no!
Put down the sweets
No, we’re not asking you to skip the sweets entirely, but rather to make more sensible choices. Consuming too much sugar has been linked to worsening anxiety symptoms and impairing the body’s ability to cope with stress. Eating healthy during the holidays will help you feel and look your best.
Remember the reason for the season
Often, the true meaning of the holidays gets lost in the hustle and bustle. Taking a moment to stop and remember why you’re celebrating the holidays in the first place will help you to appreciate and enjoy the season.
